In D & T Systems & Control, coursework accounts for a significant amount of the GCSE grade, 60%. The exam is only worth 40% of the GCSE.

Pupils choose a project from a number of suggested topics. The most common choices are controlled vehicles, moving shop displays, and car park barriers.

There are two main components in the coursework, a design folder worth 40% of the marks and a product made by the pupil which is worth 60% of the marks.
